The Class has to submit an Annual Report to World Sailing and an abridged version of the 2024 edition is now published on their Website
In 2024, 20 new boats built compared with 10 being the average for the last few years. All of the boats were built by Ovington Boats except one which was built by Composite Craft UK who are based in Cowes.
Membership of the National Class Associations ‘NCAs’ increased with 112 additional boats becoming members for year ending December 2024 compared to the previous year, bringing the total to 675 being sailed world wide. We have Fleets in Australia, Belgium, Spain. France, United Kingdom Hong Kong, Ireland, New Zealand and South Africa, in addition there are small fleets in USA, Canada, Philippines and Zimbabwe who are not members of our federation.
This influx of members and boats is no doubt influenced by the upcoming World Championship at Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy in the UK being held in August 2025. The number of boats a NCA registers dictates the number of entries an NCA is entitled to according to FFI Championship Regulations , paragraph 7. All of the NCA’s have been advised of their entitlement, and those in distant shores are already planning shipping their boats to Weymouth or making arrangements to borrow UK boats.
There is a limit of 86 boats tht can compete in the World Championship so we are organising an International Championship, targeted for Classic, Silver and Open Fleets who either do not wish to compete in the World Championship, or did not qualify, and to be a taster for those for the future.
